Colorado Citizen Observers Training

About

What’s involved in being an Observer? People who offer to observe public meetings on behalf of LWV complete a brief orientation (roughly 90 minutes total): 1. View a 6-min slide show to answer a few questions showing understanding about LWV and its history. 2. View another brief slide show to answer a few questions showing you understand the basics of Colorado Open Meetings Law (produced by the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition). 3. Review “Editorial Tips” offered by LWV-Larimer’s editor. If you’re working with a different editor, they may have their own tips. Other supportive documents (not required training) are found in the “Member Resources”. 4. Receive an invitation to complete a module of "Earn Your Press Pass,” a website to understand reporter’s objectivity, sanctioned by the Colorado Press Association. 5. Please add a photo or avatar and a one-sentence description to keep with aims of transparency for our list of trained, potential Observers! 6. Once complete, you will be contacted by a project editor to discuss your availability and preference for assignments. We hope that Observers will commit to participating in the project for a one-year minimum. This could be as little as one meeting report per month, or several in a week.
