Meeting Summary*
The district wide production of Mama Mia from this summer was recognized. The production allowed participants to grow in various ways and provided direct benefits to literacy, mental health and graduating with options.
The district externship program for teachers was recognized. Educator Externship Program | Poudre School District (psdschools.org) 15 educators spent 40 hours working at a business to learn new skills and experiences to apply to the classroom and highlight potential careers for students.
Community comments included a teacher stating training for the new elementary reading curriculum was not effective and teachers need time to prepare. Additional comments focused on increased needs for transparency, potential conflicts of interest with the Colorado Association of School Boards, accommodations for the disabled community to view district materials and to have adequate and appropriate braille signage
School Resource Officer (SRO) Presentation: Overall SRO contacts have gone down over 500 incidents over the last 5 years. The top 3 actions after School Resource Officers are involved in incidents are mentoring, no charges and referral to school. Mentoring had the largest increase in the 22/23 school year. An SRO feedback form is available School Resource Officer Program | Poudre School District (psdschools.org). It has not been used since it went live in the Spring of 2022. SRO goals for the year include traffic safety around elementary schools, community engagement outside of school, and a data tracker for SRO teaching hours.
An executive session was called to discuss 1 district strategies for the 2024-2025 collective bargaining agreement/employee contracts and 2 legal advice on specific legal questions regarding possible litigation around a former bus paraprofessional attendant
